'Tis the Season!

Shorter days, colder nights, tree lots, and egg nog and football and frost--something tells me it's the holiday season.  And you know what that means . . . online English checkpoint time!  Monday through Friday of next week, I'll be "meeting" with each of you one-on-one for a midterm progress check.  It's an opportunity for me to get to know my students a little better (or to just get to know them at all!), to make sure you're meeting expectations or getting the help you need to do that, and to discuss the required midterm writing sample.  Please be selecting (or constructing) your best essay or story or other writing for this session.  I will contact you and/or your learning coach this week to schedule a time to chat.  Also, I have some pretty sweet ideas of how we could make the rest of this year more fun and engaging and helpful.  I can't wait to talk with you about them!

Moving Right Along

Here we are in December already!  I hope you are all staying warm and grounded in this crazy, windy weather we've been having lately.  I can't wait till a good snow comes to cover up all the leaves I haven't raked up.  I'm also looking forward to some Checkpoint chats with all of you, sometime before the holiday break.  More on that to come.  Meantime, I am still waiting for my lesson materials so that I can start working more closely with each of you.  And I have special secret plans to include more individualized help on this blog (different sections for grades 6, 7, and 8) and to arrange a face-to-face meeting and greeting in the near future.  You probably can hardly wait!

Greetings!

Welcome to an exciting adventure:  English online!  I am eager and ready to get started with you (at last) in this endeavor.  After looking at all the possible ways we could stay connected, I've decided to give this blog a try.  In addition to our Class Connect sessions and my weekly office hour--4:00-5:00 on Tuesdays--I will post information, ideas, help, and announcements here for you.  It will also be another way for you to get in touch with me:  you can click the comment link at the bottom of any post to leave me a message.  Since we are all in roughly the same geographical area, I think, we might have some advantages over online classes that are spread over some distance.  Let's work together to make this the best online class ever!
